With the Middle Ages, this mystical hill was a very important place of pilgrimage on the way of ST Jacques de Compostelle. In 1146 St Bernard preached there the 2nd crusade. In 1190 Philippe Auguste and Richard Lion Heart gave themselves appointment for the 3rd crusade to it.
Louis IX came there on several occasions. The marvellous basilica of the Madeleine of XIIe and XIIIe century
remains a chief of work of art Roman.
